Can anyone recall a worse blog entry? I’m not in a good place right now.

Somewhere in every one of them there were incidents which can reflect that it helps to have friends in higher places, but after few incidents to me I feel comfortable saying it loud what I have been thinking silently for weeks now Connections doesn’t do it.

 It seems strange, I know, to have fond memories of working in my current project vanishes away with one incident. It’s hard to imagine this tall, elegant gentleman immersed in a system failed to recognize the real talent.

So to start with a little past :

When I walked into the current project, my team was totally mismanaged and tough to be maintained. Within six months of my entry, we have turned around the whole group which became Model for all other groups. There was no denial for that, as we have been asked to handle their toughest tasks in numerous occasions. With this team’s strategy and planning the whole Group credibility has increased multiple folds. My success in this project was partially because of my Connections in higher places, as they know where I can flourish and was placed.

I was literally punished because of my passion towards work and my connections:

1. Have been anticipating joining Oracle open world with the above gentleman for more than 2 years, now after all my necessary qualifications I was rejected for only one reason because, my selection was considered as favoritism rather than on my work related talent. This isn’t an isolated incident!! It’s easy to see through something so fragile in one way and yet so strong on another.
2. My friends hubby who was promised to be taken for a role after couple of interviews within the team gets insulted in panel interview because my connections played safe.
3. Taken a literal beating in my salary because of my connections.
4. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to guess when time comes while considering for performance based incentives, or lay-off I will be the foremost as I know people in higher places. Irony!!

Telling it like it isn’t, back in my seat looking for openings as there is nothing to be loyal to that lasts, as everybody looks at their own back, where I want to be recognized for my work rather than my connections as I can’t step out of my character and be someone else.

 Finally doesn’t Coaches needs Coaching too…There, I’ve said it and I’m glad.

My friend Devender(Ex-carpooler), who was instrumental in motivating me to write this crap moved out of Phoenix to Santa barbara,CA recently. I’m pasting the email I recieved from him AS IT IS discussing about new universe ..

Hello from Santa Barbara!! last weekend I moved my family here, we are now in Motel 6, hopefully in a week we will settle down. The Job: I am still getting used to it, it is probably the most complex system I have encountered, multiple databases, multiple servers, extremely complex code base, I get emails for every check-in and every build failure, they have a local IRC server and they follow the agile methodology to the extreme here.

The good: probably the most complex system I have worked with I think I can learn a lot about how to deal with large systems, the bad they don’t use SVN (some corporate policy to use preforce)

FUTURE : I have not come to any conclusions yet but from hearing all the talk around me this is what I gathered.U see I just ended up sitting in the same spot as a lot of business people so I keep hearing all of this.

The future for Google/Yahoo/MS/Sun is all about Ads on cell phones. There are twice the number of subscribers of cell phones as there are internet users and the old way of sending coupons in the mail is just dead the prime market is the Y generation the 17-mid 20′s crowd especially females as they set the trend. Google wants to get “Dream” there cell phone platform out and sun wants to take it one step further and get its JavaFx on cell phones/dvd players and any hardware.

And all this is cause they want to put Ad’s in front of faces.Very few people use TV, mostly downloads of shows so that medium is dying fast and even if they do have TV, things like Tivo is killing ads.

 MS wanted to buy Yahoo for this reason and when that did not happen they decided to buy some other Ad company and started streamlining it. I also know LinkedIn was heavily looking for Ad Engineers in the past few months, they know they have a huge network and they want to capitalize on it and so is face book and other sites, including eHarmony.

Don’t know but this seems to be a pretty hot space now. I guess the big question for everyone now is How do we get Ad’s in front of people ?

I also think if you somehow manage to start some Ad company  with any innovation you will very likely be bought by Google or MS.

Hey I wanted to tell you something about Commission Junction, so at CJ publishers and advertisers come together. Advertisers come to CJ tell us what products they have, at what price they want to sell it at and at what types of websites they would prefer there ads on (like info pages or pg rated pages). Publishers come to CJ choose advertisers and put their links on there websites. And at the end of the month when all the clicks and purchases are tallied Publishers are paid and advertisers are charged. That in a nut shell is what CJ does, there are a lot of other value added services. So maybe if you wanted to put extra ad’s on your site you could use CJ. “

One thing I learned from car pool is What you get in life is what you attract and think.
Think positive and positivity will come to you, if you keep questioning it, then you can join the long line of suckers and whiners…as there are too many selfish people here.

I read a lot about people who make things happen, often dreams.Dreamers make the world go around, their dreams follow from head to heart. I am also a type..in a category with lot of other people.I was born thinking that its not hard and it would’nt take long to do something. A lot of you sympathize with me and stays others of you have no patience with me.

Some of those impatient friends of ours are at no better at judgement than we are. They err out in a different direction,by assuming it will take longer to do something than it does. They always have time on their hands and don’t know what to do with.

BTW I dream a lot and try to remember most of the times. Some of my impatient friends might say ‘So just as soon as I have money and time will start dreaming’

My career has had some wild flings: It did took me sometime to realise that I have a combination of engineering, management and educational qualifications that, together with my pure IT experience, has still not led to a conventional growth.For a while I attributed it to the fact that I had migrated to a different country and culture with its own unique way of doing things. Now I realise that not to be the case. In order to make sense of what I was professionally doing, I asked myself “what do I mean by the word career?”

I’m not leaving the current project because of my over-bearing manager,passive-aggressive, know-it-all management style but because of various other reasons.Don’t question my commitment as I would like to venture into new frontiers a step closer in assuming more responsibilities in pursue of career growth.

So I guess coming Friday we may participate in the most sacred of corporate rituals: the farewell lunch.

Also I think we are totally engaged in Lou Dobbsism, obsessing about the millions of Mexicans who might be sneaking across the border when billions in foreign money are pouring into Citigroup and other investments in USA,Most recently we welcomed Brand India -car maker from India who bought Land rover and jaguar,its not that those CARS have great demand but they got for cheap.

You figure out what might be a bigger problem.For me the national boundaries that really matter are the financial ones: Who’s going to own the American economy?
Next one is what’lost in the whole format war HD-DVD versus Bluray.The bad guy,Sony will likely win. Yet no-one seems to care.Its so confusing and frustating to start with,But if Blu ray does indeed win, this would be a rare victory for sony lead format after losing minidisc,umd,memory stick to name a few.

For me I only look for consumer-friendliness,means more content bluray- the ability to run java applications in their movies and they are able to add dynamic content to their movies.I think that’s a good thing for the consumer wouldn’t  you say?
Calling Sony the bad guys yada yada is just whining.

Another “News” is for people who know wrestling and politics are fake but think cricket is real.For me Cricket is the most deceptive sport I have ever followed, as most of the times its not evenly balanced.Either pitch/ground favors only one team who bowls bats/bowls first.So either team will not be given a fair amount of chance to take a winning shot,which is decided by weather/groundsman/bookies.
